REPORTING ABOUT DRAMA

Choose a play (a script written either for television, stage or radio) and read thoroughly, take notes about its plot, characters, themes, setting, etc.

For your report you may choose from among these activities:

1. Write a REVIEW of the play. Support your opinions.

2. Dramatize (perhaps with others who read the same work you did) a significant scene from the play. Provide some narration so that we know what the rest of the story is about. Arrange your performance with me.

3. Write an analysis of a main character in the play.

4. Summarize the plot. Do the events in the play follow a logical sequence and move toward a satisfactory resolution?

5. Write your own short play (don't forget to include stage directions) based on a story you have read.

6. You may write a commentary about themes in the play you read (example: race relations in West Side Story)

7. You may read a play based on a book you have read and compare the differences.

8. Create a game based on your play (a board game, card game, etc. be creative!).

9. Create an advertising plan for the play: You are the producer. How will you attract a viewing audience? Brainstorm several ways you might publicize the play. You may include a poster designed to promote it. (remember the five persuasive techniques for advertising?)

10. If you were the Director of the play, who would you cast in the roles and why? Are there stereotypical characters? Consider "image" actor brings to play.

11. Consider the setting of your play. Would the action be effective in another setting? Discuss reasons pro and con.
