Composition = Compare and Contrast (reference pages 130-137 and 512)
A paragraph of comparison shows how two things are alike. A paragraph of contrast shows how two things are different.
Guidelines:
- Think about your purpose. (Are you educating, entertaining, persuading? For whom are you writing this composition?)
- Chose a specific topic (does it contain 2 things you can compare and contrast? List the similarities and differences about the two things.)
- Arrange the details on your list in a clear, organized way before writing a paragraph of comparison or contrast.
- Write a topic sentence that clearly states the main idea.
Use the details on your list to write the other sentences your composition. Make sure that these sentences support the main idea.
