4. Avoid transforming verbs and adjectives into nouns.

5. Avoid stringing nouns together into a huge, run on sentence that may lose your reader.

6. Maintain the balance.

7. Emphasize important words by placing them where they receive natural stress, either at the beginning or, for even greater emphasis, at the end of a sentence.

8. Place subordinate ideas in subordinate constructions.

9. Substitute descriptive verbs for vague verbs.

10. Substitute lean words for ponderous expressions.

11. Substitute familiar for unfamiliar words.

12. Avoid overused expressions common to the business world. (jargon)

13. Cut unnecessary words.

14. Be precise.

15. Avoid confusing pronouns.

16. Keep sentence elements in their proper order.

17. Avoid dangling modifiers.
